GUIDED Retreat

CURATED BY me,
LED BY GUIDES I TRUST

Uzbekistan took my breath away and I want 12 women to experience it as deeply as I did. Welcome to Eunoia Chapter V, a guided retreat. This is the most immersive way I know how to send you somewhere. I walk the route myself first, city by city, hotel by hotel, meal by meal, until I trust every piece of it completely. Then I hand it to the local guides who know that ground better than I ever could, the ones who grew up in these old cities, who can get you through a gate before the light changes or into a kitchen most travelers never see. You get their lifelong expertise and my full curation, alongside a group of women who are just as curious as you are.

I won't be there, but I'll have set every step of it up for you. Send me a postcard! xx

WE LOOKED INTO CLONING. TURNS OUT IT IS NOT A THING YET. SO UNTIL THAT CHANGES, SARAH WILL NOT BE HOSTING THIS RETREAT.

Khiva’s Ichan Kala walls have stood since long before the word "itinerary" existed, and they'll stand long after we're gone. I've stood in the Kalyan minaret's shadow at dusk and watched the tilework shift from turquoise to violet, and understood exactly why Genghis Khan spared it when he burned everything else around it. Some places are older than conquest.

Uzbekistan isn't a checklist, though it will look like one on paper. What actually stays with you is smaller: the forty-year rhythm of a family's kazan in Bukhara, the buzz of Lyabi-Khauz Square where men have played chess under the same mulberry trees for centuries. This is a retreat built for women who want that kind of space, the place itself, exactly as it's always been.

The Journey

KHIVA, BUKHARA & SAMARKAND

Six nights across three walled cities at the heart of the Silk Road. This women-only group trip will start in the city of Khiva for 2 nights. The moment you step through the old walled city, Ichan Kala, through its massive ancient gates, you realize where you are and take in the grandeur of Uzbekistan in one sight. Mornings begin with breakfast before you head out into the streets with your guide. Afternoons bring you back to rest, to lunches and long conversations, to courtyards and teahouses shaded against the desert heat. You’ll fly to Bukhara where the world seems to have stopped in the 1500s, and the golden era of crafts still shines bright. With local hands, you'll sit with artisans for an afternoon that goes beyond a workshop, embroiderers, carpet weavers, bakers shaping bread the way their families always have. They'll tell you the history of this craft, traditions carried across centuries of Silk Road trade. You'll walk through centuries of trade and faith, past madrasas, minarets, and caravanserais that still hold their original shape. You'll climb the Kunya Ark watchtower in Khiva and Bukhara's fortress walls, eyes on the skyline, waiting for the light to turn the tilework from turquoise to gold. Folklore performances are woven into the evenings, together with open ended afternoons with pots of tea, shisha and Uzbek beats in the backgorund. And most evenings, dinner gathers the group at a shared table, one night with a local family, the kazan still warm from the fire.

KHIVA

You'll fly into Urgench and meet your driver for the transfer into Khiva, about 30 minutes into Western Uzbekistan. The walled inner city, Ichan Kala, looks exactly like what it is: a Silk Road capital that survived everything. No cars. No crowds in the early morning. Just turquoise tilework and minarets that have been standing for centuries. Two days here means real time, not a rushed pass-through, enough to climb the Kunya Ark watchtower at sunset and watch the whole old city turn gold.

Your stay: Two nights at the best Sarah-approved hotel in Khiva (Twin/Separate Beds)

May 11 & 12, 2027

Bukhara

Board a flight or a train from Khiva to Bukhara, depending on the available routes that day. We will handle everything. Onward to a city denser and older than Khiva, two thousand years of trade, faith, and scholarship packed into one walled old town. Climb the fortress walls, stand beneath the minaret Genghis Khan spared, and end the day at Lyabi-Khauz Square, where men still play chess under the same mulberry trees they always have.

Stay: Two nights at a 4-star hotel in the heart of Bukhara's old city (Twin/Separate Beds)

May 13 & 14

Samarkand

Your last stop is the city Timur chose as the capital of his empire, filled with the greatest architects and craftsmen of the Islamic world. The Registan rises in perfect symmetry, three madrasahs facing each other, turquoise domes and towering portals covered in tilework that turns geometry into prayer. You'll see Bibi Khanym Mosque and the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, an avenue of tombs wrapped in cobalt and gold. A day of artisan workshops and a visit to the Ulugbek Observatory, built by a 15th-century astronomer king who mapped two thousand stars before telescopes existed, round out your time here. Your last morning belongs to Siyob Bazaar, bread, spices, and market noise that's been running in the same place for centuries, before the road home.

Your stay: Two nights at a 4-star hotel just steps from the gates of Ichan Kala (Twin/Separate Beds)
