Riad Mena

Private Tour of Marrakech with Private Guide

After a traditional breakfast, meet your private guide at your riad. Wander through the maze of vibrant souks in the heart of the old city, where you can haggle for everything from spices and textiles to jewelry and traditional crafts, all while soaking in the sensory overload of sights, sounds, and smells. Your guide will take you on an introductory tour of the city’s old medina so that you can become more acquainted with your riad’s location and the sights to see nearby.

The Medina of Marrakech is the historic core of the city founded by the Almoravid dynasty around 1070–1072 CE. Today it remains a living medieval city defined by its red ochre walls, narrow souks, and vibrant public spaces, tracing centuries of dynastic influence from the Almoravids to the Almohads and beyond.

Within the Medina are several key historic sites with notable dates: Jemaa el‑Fna Square, the central cultural hub that has been active since medieval times and added to UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage list in 2001; the Koutoubia Mosque, founded by the Almohads in the mid‑12th century and completed under Yaqub al‑Mansur by 1195 CE; the Ben Youssef Madrasa, a major Islamic college founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th century; the Saadian Tombs, whose ornate royal mausoleums date to the 16th century; and the Bahia Palace, constructed in the 1860s as a masterpiece of later Moroccan architecture.

Independent Exploration

After a delicious Moroccan breakfast at your riad, meet your private driver and vehicle, at your disposal for the full day. Today is yours to shape as you wish, with the flexibility to explore more of Marrakech or venture beyond the city. You might head to the Agafay Desert to experience its dramatic rocky landscapes and Atlas Mountain views, or stay in Marrakech and discover more of the city.

Perhaps visit the Jardin Secret – a beautifully restored 19th-century palace nestled in the heart of Marrakech's medina. Once a private residence, it now offers visitors a serene escape with its two distinct gardens: an Islamic garden reflecting traditional Moroccan design and a more exotic garden showcasing diverse plant species.

If you are in the mood for more shopping, explore the boutiques on Rue Sidi Abdelaziz, starting with Mustapha Blaoui famous for his labyrinth of interior design gems. Then step into V. Barkowski next door for the best linen pieces in town. Next walk over to Laly Marrakech and Hanout Boutique.
