One Destination, Deeply Experienced

THE PACE OF THE LAND

Indonesia is 17,000 islands, and the instinct is almost always to see as many as possible. I usually talk clients out of that. Sumba, one of the country's least developed islands, holds Nihi, a resort I've watched people arrive at restless and leave from unrecognizable, quieter, slower, more themselves. Horses on an empty beach at dawn. A jungle spa built into the hillside. Seven nights and nowhere else to be. Some places don't need a route. They need time.

Where to go in
indonesia

Sumba (Nihi Sumba)

One of Indonesia's least developed islands, home to a resort I return to whenever a client needs to disappear a little, thatched-roof villas, a world-class left-hand surf break, and horses on the beach at first light.

Home to the Komodo dragon, the world's largest living lizard, along with pink sand beaches and some of the clearest water in Southeast Asia.

Komodo National Park

Rice terraces in Ubud, surf towns along the south coast, a temple ritual visible from the road on any given morning. Still the island most people picture first, and still worth the visit.

Bali

Raja Ampat

For travelers willing to go further, this remote archipelago in West Papua holds some of the most biodiverse reefs on earth, genuinely untouched, genuinely far.
